One of the best books on writing ever put to paper -- funny, honest, full of right-on-the-money advice. All of Lamott's own insecurities and fears are on display in the pages, and it makes a reader (and a writer) feel a little less alone.

This is not the first time I've read this book and it won't be the last time. Anne Lamott is one of my favorite writers because she puts her heart right out there for everyone to see. Often her prose makes me want to weep because it is so beautiful. You don't have to be an aspiring writer to enjoy this book but if you are, I promise you will learn something important from it.

Ask anyone who writes what books they would recommend, and this one is sure to be on the list. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed On Writing. I did think there was some good advice — taking things "bird by bird" and looking at the world through a 1-inch picture frame come to mind — and I appreciated her description of what it’s like to be published, but the rest of it just didn’t speak to me like I expected it to. Really really fantastic book. Even if you don't aspire to be a writer you could enjoy this book. I'm leaving this site immediately to go add Anne Lamott's fiction to my Amazon wishlist. Woman can write and can teach writing. I feel so inspired to do some more writing of my own now!

I thought this book was beautiful. I loved reading it. Her words and ideas were jewels. It was definitely worth my time and I don't even plan on writing.
