What Members Thought

The quick summary is that Emma is a local match-maker. After helping merge one fantastic couple, Mr. Weston and Emma’s governness Miss Taylor, all her other schemes seems to flounder. Harriet Smith is a minor character although seems to fall in love with anyone that Emma points to. Mrs. Elton was one of my favorite characters only because of her insipid vanity and over indulgence in herself.

My least favorite of all of Austen's books that I've read so far, though I did still enjoy it. It just didn't capture my attention as raptly as her others do. Also, I had a hard time not paralelling everything in the book to the movie Clueless - an undeniably annoying tendency.
I'm glad to have read it, though it probably won't be one that I am dying to reread, as is Pride and Prejudice or Northanger Abbey. ...more

I had been resisting reading Austen for years, and now I'm not sure why, because Emma was such fun. It really was similar the movie Clueless, and was fun to pick out the characters.
