I enjoyed listening to the unabridged audio recording of this book. My knowledge of the French Revolution is pretty sketchy, so it was terrific for me to read a book that traced the history in some detail. Moran manages to give some perspective on just how frightening life became in Paris during the revolution and the Reign of Terror.

The reader for the audiobook had a hard time with male voices, but there isn't too much dialogue and not too many men, so it wasn't overly distracting.

I'm in complete awe of Michelle Moran. I mean, yes, I'm a fan-girl and I've loved her writing ever since I first started Nefertiti but she did something raw and fantastic in Madame Tussaud.

I've read the stories and seen the movies about Marie Antoinette but rarely have I see anything about those surrounding her. Of course, I've heard about Madame Tussaud, but I had no idea about how closely she was involved with the Royal Family or that she had to do the things she was forced to do. I was horrif

Originally reviewed at Jayne's Books.

First off, I should mention that the book starts off before Madame Tussaud gets married and therefore throughout most of the book she is known as Marie Grosholtz and I suppose for sales, the publisher or whoever was in charge of making this decision, the book was named Madame Tussaud.

I really enjoyed this book and the only reason that it took me longer than it should have was because it was on my e-reader, which some of you know isn't the greatest in sunshin

I love historical fiction because it brings together my passion for great stories and my interest in history. Through good historical fiction, you discover in a much more accessible way the everyday life of everyday folks in famous historical events. For example, The Other Boleyn Girl taught me bunches about life at the court of Henry VIII, and Madame Tussaud taught me a great deal about what life was like during the French Revolution and, more importantly The Terror.

Don't know anything about t

This is a textbook case of an author who does so much research and knows her subject and setting so well that the historical bits of "he did this, and then this guy reacted like this and then the next day the papers said this and it is all true" got in the way of a really interesting story of Marie Tussaud.
In the middle part of the bog, there were parts that I felt like I was living day to day through the French revolution. That amount of detail was excessive and unnecessary. Sluggish. Depressin

I very much enjoy this author's works. Keep in mind that they are a work. Of fiction, but they mix in true important events and give ou a feel for life in the to me of these main characters. I like that reading these causes me to do m y own research to try to differentiate which parts are true. ...more

Fictionalized accounts of history always make me nervous, but the author seems to have treated her subject with great care and consideration, keeping as close as possible to the facts and deftly offering explanatory notes in an unobtrusive way. Forewords and afterwords explain the historical background and even point out just exactly where liberties were taken. Most of all, the novel illustrates the extreme danger of group-man and and just what its like to be in the fog of war, or in this case, ...more

This was a really enjoyable historical fiction novel. I loved reading bout how Marie made her wax models, her relationships with the royal family, and how the french revolution went on around her.
