If I'm remembering correctly, one might profitably compare this book with Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible in that both deal with what happens to Europeans/Americans when they go unprepared and with their own preconceived notions into a completely different landscape and culture. "Mistah Kurtz -- he dead." I read this a long time ago for AP English. ...more
