While I can't call this a favorite, I can definitely see what all the commotion is about. very disturbing, yet full of humor and beautifully written. The contrast is mesmerizing. That such a despicable crime/person can be so artfully and unflinchingly depicted transcends voyeurism and disgust to something more meaningful. compassion is not the key here, tragedy is. ...more

Let's just say I'm glad I can tick this off my list but I struggled. This is the ultimate in unlikable protagonist and while Lolita is painted as complicit in her relationship with/abuse by her step-father, I (as I'm sure most readers) felt very uncomfortable with it. It's been on my list for years so I'm glad I've read it/listened to it.
