Narration:
The narrator for the audiobook did an excellent job keeping the structurally complicated story from getting lost in the audio format. This book shouldn't work as an audiobook since it has not only shifting viewpoints but also shifting time frames. I can see why this won the Audies Award for Fiction in 2015. Totally deserved.

Wow. Okay, this book is a huge emotional and time investment, but it is worth it for the author's writing. It is written so beautifully, and I love the short, powerful chapters. It's not a five-star book for me, only because it is pretty heartbreaking and some subject matter is gruesome. Also, this is the second book I have read this year that talks about the French occupation in Germany (The Girl You Left Behind).
