What Members Thought

I read this in conjunction with the six hour mini-series which several of my acquaintances rave about. It's a nice story, but not what I would call a page turner. For one, novels that concentrate on courtship and inevitable marriage generally don't hold my interest. Sadly, P&P did little to change my perceptions of Edwardian romantic literature. Sorry Bronte and Austen lovers, but men like Mr. Darcy sound great on paper and translate to delusions of grandeur in the real world. Men are not saints

I read this over Thanksgiving, and I kind of copped out and bought the Barnes and Nobles library copy. I wouldn't recommend that series because of the lack of notations at the end. If you're going to read a classic, you really need a credible accounting for the historical significance of the book. In this P&P version, I can't tell you how many times I read the words "perhaps" and "probably". It was disappointing.
