I'm giving this 3 stars, though I would rather give it 2.5 stars. Here's the deal on this book.

The writing is beautiful. Although it doesn't flow as much as I imagine it does in its native language, the story has a calming effect in the way it's laid out.

Synopsis:

The Alchemist is the story of Santiago a young shepherd in the Andalusian Mountains, who has a vivid and recurring dream. It’s translated by a fortune-teller who tells him to go follow it to find the buried treasures. The tale follows him on this journey wherein he encounters people and events that shape up his decisions and lead him to make some riches and relationships. Very quick read. Inspiring fable for all adults. Enjoyed the many different settings. It felt more realistic that the main character didn't blindly follow his dream but had doubts and haardships along the way.

I listened to this and some of the fables within the fable were hard to follow and distracting. I think it's one of those stories that in a year, I'll be able to say more whether it truly had an impact. I did enjoy the lacing of the Muslim and Christian outlooks and how they affect the goals in our lives. An interesting read, but I'm glad it was relatively short. ...more

This book gives perspective on life and how to acheive that what we desire most. It also touches on learning from the journey. But, best of all, its a great story!
