This is not your typical Jodi Picoult book. Don't get me wrong... you still have the story told from the perspective of different characters (and in different fonts) and of course there is a moral issue. However, the bulk of this story is much different. I don't want to say I enjoyed it, because reading about the Holocaust, even in historical fiction, is never enjoyable. While parts of this story are tough to read, they were well done.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! This was my favorite read of 2016! I almost did not read it as I am hesitant to read WWII books as there are so many out there and many are very depressing and/or hard to read. I am so glad I did as I loved this book. Something about the way the story was told, a story entwined in the story, the mysterious elements, the characters, the discussion of baking/dough, and the way the author approached the theme of forgiveness that echoed one of my other favorite WWII books, The Hid ...more

It has been a few years since I took a seminar on Nazi Germany during my college years, but reading this book took me back to that class and the true education it provided. Sage is a baker still reeling from the car accident that took her mother's life and left her badly scarred when she meets Joseph, an elderly man who says very little, at the support group she attends. Jodi Picoult's The Storyteller. I've always had a fascination with WW2 and Holocaust lit. I've visited Auschwitz, Bergen Belsen and Dachau but the story that Picoult crafted brought me back to the feeling I had when touring the camps. It's a powerful read and has the reader question good and evil and the blurry line we dare to cross. ...more
