What Members Thought
"Escape from Spiderhead," "Exhortation," and "The Semplica Girl Diaries" all had promise as ideas, though I didn't feel that they all held up to that promise. But right from the get go this book started with a story about a stranger rape. I'm not convinced that the world needs another story from a middle aged white guy about the least common rape scenario. Most of this was interesting but depressing. The last story was brilliant. I remember reading one of these in the New Yorker and being blown away. I'm not sure as a package it's perfection, and gosh is it a bleak world in these pages. But it is so smart.
