This book was a unique read for me; told by a dog and the other main character a semi-professional race car driver, not your average 9 to 5 job.
I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain immediately, and I couldn’t stop reading, even though from the outset it’s clear it’s going to be a rather sad story.
But then at about the Chapter 30 mark I feared it took a wrong turn, to me, it seemed to be heading towards the realm of Jodi Picoult (although to be fair I have only read one of her books), and sudden ...more

When this book was picked as our monthly book club selection there were quite a few people who said "Ugh, not a dog book!". I will admit I have been waffling over the past year as to whether to read The Art of Racing in the Rain or not. On the one hand I had heard good things about the book but on the other hand I am generally not a fan of sappy animal books.

This is just an all around excellent book. We listened to this on an 8 hour car trip to Ohio and we loved it. The author's choice of narrator is priceless and his wit and humor in the voice are perfect. I truly loved this book...

This was a cute if a little trite in that it was written from the dog's point of view. That said, it could have been a lot worse and if you're going to write from an animal's point of view, this was the way to do it.

To me, this was one of my all time favorite reads. I loved the dog's point of view and have always felt that my dog knows a lot more than we think and I found myself talking to him differently as I read the book. Sweet, funny, and heartbreaking, this book hits them all. Definitely recommend to anyone who's an animal lover. Christopher Evan Welch did a fantastic job reading too!

What a wonderful book. Friends said I would cry for sure, and though I got a little choked up at the end, I didn't cry.
This book made me think of all the dogs I've ever loved, wish we could have a dog now, and be a little nicer to my cats.
It's heart warming and sweet, and it'll make you angry too. ...more
