For me, this is one of those books that you can read over and over and over, and even though you know the ending, you still can't put it down and you wish that maybe this time, there'll be a different ending.

Another book for the 6th grader - I can’t believe I had never read it. I love that this was written when the author was a teen. Her interview at the end was interesting to read. And the discussion questions are great. I’m too old to truly connect with this book, but I think it’s a great selection, and my kid who loves writing will get a kick out of it.

This is one if my favorite books ever. I don't actually entirely know why. There are definitely parts that could have been written better, or characters better fleshed out, but it's not just that I'm cutting SE Hinton a break for having written the book at 16. It just feels very authentic and honest to me.
