De esta novela lo único que sabía es que es la obra más conocida de la autora pero no me esperaba nada de lo que sucedió: empezamos la historia con Dana en el hospital con una herida muy extraña en el brazo izquierdo, su esposo Kevin es el principal sospechoso.

A harrowing tale of time travel in which a 1970s Black woman is transported back to 1815 Maryland, repeatedly, for a purpose that she eventually figures out. On some occasions she is able to bring her white husband back with her. Dana experiences much of what it was like to be a slave in those times, and what she does not experience, she witnesses. This book completely sucked me in from the first page. The plot seems far-fetched: In 1976, Dana randomly wakes up in 1815 on her ancestor’s plantation. She eventually returns to her home but gets called back several more times. I loved that it was less a time travel story and more a narrative of life on a plantation. There are some difficult scenes of slave treatment, but it is thought-provoking, powerful, and creative. I will be thinking about this one for a long time.

Well, science fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction--it doesn't matter because more than anything it's a great book. Told in easy-to-read language with difficult-to-read subject matter, we follow Dana as she's taken back in time to the Antebellum South again and again to save ...more

4.5* A masterpiece combination of sci-fi & slave memoir/history. A brilliantly executed piece of writing.
