My first Ian McEwan book and I will definitely be checking out more. This drew me in and I couldn't stop thinking about it; plus, its depiction of the legal world and how legal decisions are made and written appears accurate (at least in my experience). I found myself not really liking Fiona, especially as the book approached the end (without giving a spoiler alert). She seemed so detached from me, the reader, and removed from her emotions. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book so good that I just did not want to put down. Ian McEwan’s newest novel The Children Act has everything I love in a book----great characters, exquisite writing and, a real plus, words I had to look up!
