By far the LONGEST book that I've read so far this year! This hefty tome clocked in at over 900 pages. BUT, I love Murakami and was really looking forward to reading this one.
The book's chapters alternate between the various protagonists. The main 2 characters are Tengo & Aomame, who are both 30 and living in Tokoyo in 1984 (or is it 1Q84???).

I put this down around page 650. I just couldn't do it anymore: co-reading books on pregnancy and then switching to Murakami's tale of a guy who's having sex with with small girls...it was just too much for me. I appreciated the element of magical realism, and the fact that he was working with two worlds colliding with each other (or moving parallel to each other). As a whole, the story was pretty interesting. It was a little drawn out and some parts were just dull. The dialogue was stilted and awkward in a way that would have made George Lucas proud. I made my way through this but only with a relief at having done so; maybe Murakami is not my cup of tea, maybe I just don't "get it". Either way, this was more of a chore than an enjoyment.
