Yes, a modern Beauty and the Beast tale. The great part about fantasy is that is doesn't have to be realistic; however, I felt that that "modernization" factors of the story tried to make it too realistic and clashed with the fairy tale magic it kept. I do think the characterization from the Beast's perspective was good, and I liked the secondary characters of Will and Magda. Lindy (the Beauty) was not as developed as I'd have liked. It was strange for me to see a girl so clearly described as "n

I wanted to see the movie version of this, because I love the Beauty and the Beast tale, and the movie looked good. Then I read the reviews, and they were really bad. Then I read some reviews of the book here on Goodreads, and decided to read the book instead. When I picked it up for the library, I was a little underwhelmed. The book seemed so small. Would it be worth reading?
But, oh, wow, it was! It was very much worth reading. I enjoyed this as much or more than any book I've read in months. I ...more

This was an interesting take on one of my favorite fairytales. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I didn't like the chat room scenes. That made it way too hoakie. I did like the interaction between Adrian and Lindy, though.

A modernized retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
Sixteen year old Kyle Kingsbury has it all--money, looks, and popularity. Unfortunately, he is a huge jerk who is truly ugly on the inside. After he irritates a witch, she turns him into a beast and tells him that he will remain a beast forever unless he can discover true love in two years.
Kyle and Linda are both teenagers with crappy parents who are all to happy to abandon them. The development of their relationship is portrayed realistically.

It's a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast - from the Beast's viewpoint. It was well done. From the beginning, I didn't like Kyle. To put it bluntly, he was an arrogant ass. But after he is transformed into a beast, he slowly begins to change into a decent person...one who must find a true love to break the beastly spell.

A modern retelling of the Beauty and the Beast tale. Sweet, interesting, and apparently well-researched, with aspects of several different cultures' Beast stories mixed in.

This was a fun young adult novel. It's a play on Beauty and the Beast. There were parts that bugged me, but overall it was a light fun read.

You just cannot get away with a modern urban version of Beauty and the Beast if you are keeping Beast's kidnapping of Beauty. Not cool.

Superb. I loathed Kyle at the beginning and loved him by the end. Couldn't put this page turner down.
