I'd give this a 3.5 if I could.
Part two in the Divergent series, this one started in the middle of the action, virtually right where Divergent left off. Although it would be read without reading the first - Roth takes care to explain events in the first book, where needed - I think this book spends a lot less time on character development than Divergent, so it may be harder for a reader to care about the characters in this book if they didn't come from reading Divergent.
