I picked this up, of course, because it's a private eye book written by JK Rowling under a pseudonym. It's clearly written for a very different audience, but JKR's writing style is her own, through and through. Either you like it, or you are just in it for the wizards.
I love the way she names characters, which may seem silly, but Cormoran Strike is a truly great name for this large, hairy private detective. The plot was interesting and moved along quickly. It was an easy read, even though I'm n ...more

I had forgotten this was written by the one and only J. K. Rowling when I was started the book! I had it on my wish list for a bit and could not remember who had recommended it to me, but I am sure it was because I wanted to read more of Rowling's genius. I still have not read Casual Vacancy yet either and not sure I will after this. The book was entertaining and I did want to know "who dunnit!?" but there was really nothing special about the book or the writing as it was a pretty standard detec

I really enjoyed this one, but I thought it was way too long for the amount of actual story. I will definitely continue reading this series ... I want to know what happens next to Cormoran and Robin.

I remember thinking, "All of this information better be relevant when the case is solved." But it basically all was and I was gripped by the end. I enjoyed the characterization of Strike and will likely read the next one when I have time. Very weird to think that this was written by JK Rowling--I can see some similar

A bit of a slow-starter, and sometimes rather wordy, but worth the effort to keep going. The plot was fairly predictable, the characters were really good, especially Strike and Robin. Some of the language may seem difficult to Americans, since it's really a British, and even more so, a London read.

This book was extremely long and slow. Nothing exciting happened. It was just 500 pages of a bunch of characters being questioned one after the other and then the main character slowly putting clues together. So that means long scenes of inner thoughts going over everything that was said during the questioning of the other characters. Because I was listening to the audiobook version then I found myself nodding off quite a bit when the story got really tedious. I would not recommend this book. I
