Re-Read May 2012 - I needed a break for my brain amidst the writing of papers and studying for finals and this series fits the bill. I dropped one star from my original rating because, even though they are kind of addictive, these are just so... something. Does everything need a brand name? Jeez. Was she getting paid for product placement?

I really didn't want to buy this book. When I first saw the commercial for the tv show I didn't even know it was based on a book. For the record, I've never watched the show but I'll admit, the commercials have intrigued me.
Today when I saw the books on the shelf at Target the connection clicked and I had a chicken/egg moment. Was the show based on the book or was the book based on the show? Plus the cover kind of sucked me in. So I picked it up. I read the back cover blurb. Then I read the ins ...more

This was the last book I had to read for the PopSugar 2015 Reading Challenge, and I zoomed through it because it was so close to the end of the year.
However, I also zoomed through it because it's not a tough read. I haven't seen the show at all, but it has the typical ensemble of girls that are friends, but have nothing in common except their friendship. There's the fashionable one, the sporty one, the brainiac, and the one that's a little overweight but kind to everyone. There's a twist in this ...more

Reading this was like reading an updated and slightly mythical version of 90210. 5 friends in a very wealthy neighborhood in Pennsylvania struggle after the death of the leader and most popular of their friends. Excessive descriptions of designer clothes, jewelry and cars maybe appealing to some, but I felt it detracted from the character development. I had to keep reminding myself who was who, even towards the end. The most interesting character (though I can't remember her name) was the one st

So I was forced to read this for my reading challenge. The narrator of the audiobook sounded like a snotty 15 year old girl. She never changed her voice for any of the characters. She vaguely tried to use a British accent for one character and that was just laughable it was so bad. Honestly though I can't blame the narrator for making the book bad. It was horrible all on its own. I have not watched the tv show based on this series but I have watched a season of Gossip Girl(Because Chace Crawford

Only because the girls in my book club at school said it wasn't as bad I assume it would be. We'll see about that....
