A heartbreaking and frustrating memoir, and yet I liked it. In fact, I was totally engrossed; the writing really pulled me in. This is a book about two parents who are, in essence, neglecting their children -- but almost as a choice, as though they are using their neglect to teach them to "make it" in the world. The Glass Castle relates extraordinary events in the life of Walls which at some point sound simply unbelievable, but that's not my biggest gripe. While reading this book I was reminded of a little kid, who's been asked to keep a secret but can't hold it in her tummy anymore and ends up prattling it off to strangers eventually, without pausing for breath. A compelling read, had a hard time putting it down, all the while wanting to punch these parents flat in the face for their selfish ways. Also, thankful to have always been in a stable home ...

An endearing story of a girl who grows up in poverty with interesting parents and life stories. I enjoyed it and it inspired me to try to remember incidents from my past and write them down for posterity or entertainment value (:
