It's confusing, depressing, weird, boring, and I really don't see the romance. I mean, Cathy haunting Heathcliff could be seen as romantic, but he was an a-hole, and she wasn't much better, besides, she died, so... i suppose it's the Gothic theme of a dark vortex of Heathcliff and his obsession with Cathy sucking in all life and light around him...

I think I might like this more on a second read. At first, I was just so confused trying to keep characters and timelines and ages straight that I wasn't really comprehending what I was reading. As I got toward the end, I realized that this has a very "Madame Bovary" feel to it, a book that I actually love even though it's sort of the antithesis of my everyday.
