I had to give this book 5 stars because #1: Jim Gaffigan is hilarious, #2: the only way to survive parenting is through humor and #3: I swear this was the book I WAS GOING TO WRITE ON PARENTING but from a mom's point of view and minus a few chapters and the title! Seriously almost every thought/chapter in his book was something that was so right on target and funny because it is so true and was probably something I thought at the time! If you are a mom or a dad you have to read this! If you do n ...more

Highly entertaining and it's a good book that can be read in parallel with others as it's light hearted and funny ~ ...more

I could identify with a lot of the humor in this book -- comedian Jim Gaffigan has five kids, with the oldest being in elementary school and the youngest being a brand-new baby ... similar span to my four kids. This was an easy read and really funny in some places (it was always funnier when I'd read parts aloud to my husband ... Roni, I probably should have taken your suggestion and gotten the audio CD!).

On the negative side: sometimes I'd read too much of this at a time, and it left me feelin

**2015 Reading Challenge W/Josh: #14 A Nonfiction Book**

I laughed a few times. As a mother of 3 I could relate to most of this book. I only gave it 2 stars because I am just not a fan of non-fiction. It's just not my thing. But I had to read one for my reading challenge so I got it over with. Moving on...

I really liked this! I listened to it while I drove my kids around, and they loved it, too. It isn't so much as funny as it is pro-parenthood. I love that he loves his wife so much and loves his kids, even though he feels like he is a bad dad sometimes. I especially liked the chapter on having a lot of kids and why it isn't such a big deal to have so many! ...more

It's best to read this if you are already familiar with Jim's voices he uses during his stand up. I could hear him the whole time and it made it that much better! Since this is pretty much full of parenting "jokes" or what have you, I am not sure if it would be as funny if you didn't have children. ...more

A collection of essays based on Jim’s stand-up comedy about his love of fast food, his family life, and living in a small New York apartment. Funny.

He is a funny guy and family humor is always a good subjuct, but many of his jokes felt like I have heard them before. Sure they are still amusing, just not new.
