DNF. This should be My Type Of Book (modern London fantasy) but at 28% I was bored with the flat prose, wondering what the actual plot was, and why it was so sexist given that it was published in 2011. Skimming other reviews it seems the book does not improve, so I quit. It's not helpful to this book that I just finished a reread of my favorite Terry Pratchett books, and it's so unfair to compare anyone to that colossus of fiction, but it just highlighted the importance of story craft, which thi

Published in the UK as Rivers of London, this is the first in a series of unusual paranormal mysteries. I say unusual because so far (I'm only now reading the second book) there are no vampires! There's also quite a bit of humor, which is quite refreshing. The Rivers of London (and north of London for that matter) do make an appearance as characters.
