A stunningly beautiful novel with one of my favorite first sentences ever. At its core, "Love in the Time of Cholera" is about one thing: love.

I've been warned away from the recently released film version though. Its a shame when they go and ruin wonderful books when they translate them to film. tsk tsk. ...more

I am still torn on how I feel about this book. I initially hated it. It was a drag to get through the first 100 pages. Then I got a bit involved with the characters and they started to grow in me. Then Florentino Arizia started an affair with a 14 year old. While he was approaching 80. And the squick factor almost did me in. Then he got to be with his love. But his affair with the freaking teenager- he even describes her diaper smell- was still prominent in my mind. And jn the book since she kil ...more

I adored this book. I thought it would be some cheesy love story where the main characters fight against all odds to run into each others arms at the end and while that's not completely far off of what happens (no spoilers!) the way it happens is so wonderful and natural, I really appreciated the pace of the character's actions and thoughts. There are various things I found slightly unbelievable but in the end I was completely satisfied with the story and outcome. ...more
