What did I like about this book?
1. the circus setting.
2. some of the characters are amazing.
3. the real heroine is an elephant, which is awesome, and also, the elephant herself is awesome.
4. it was a NaNoWriMo book, which is interesting. i want to believe in quality literature that begins in november. i need to believe in it.

It's the story of a traveling circus, which is narrated in flashbacks by the 90 or 93 year old Jankowski who had joined it when recently orphaned and without a penny to his name.

It was an entertaining read. But it turned out to be yet another one of those books which gets rave reviews but doesn't usually live up to expectations, at least mine. Just finished this - my first book that I read on my new Nook. Really enjoyed it. It is a book I've looked at several times, but never was sure about it. I'm glad I finally took the chance. It was interesting to read all the research the author did on the circus and how the stories in this book are for the most part true stories - although woven from many different circuses rather than all happening in one.

Also interesting was the jake paralysis that affected potentially up to 100,000 people in

If you ever wanted to run away with the circus, this is the book for you. The narrator is honest and loveable. You join him for his ups and downs. Plus there's a clever elephant...how can you go wrong? ...more
