What Members Thought
This book is a quiet force. It seems like it'll be a mystery, opening with a murder. But it's really a portrait of a family and their dynamic. You're like a fly on the wall, watching how each one suffers silently in their own way. There is struggle with racism, sexism, expectations, fitting in, and just a want of love and attention. Makes you wonder if you really know a person. Shows how important communication is but how sometimes it's hardest to communicate with those closest to you.

Oh this book was so sad. So much familial misunderstanding and hoping and wanting but so little communication.
I feel as if I should have been more emotional reading this. I felt so much anger and disappointment at the parents. I felt like this was such a messed up family. I wonder if all families are like this? Holding so much back, so afraid to be themselves and except who everyone else is.
Incredible. This type of story is one of the reasons I adore reading.
