I absolutely adore this series, Dead Djinn Universe. It's steampunk set in Cairo, and P Djeli Clark appears to have an intimate relationship with the city, though I cannot find anything indicating that he's lived there. But reading through this novella, as well as its predecessors, is like waking up there, and the journey is delightful. I enjoy these books a lot. This one wasn't quite as seamless in its incorporation of issues of gender and politics, but they're still there, and the story itself is engaging and both funny and frightening, all of which is impressive given how short the tale (novella?) actually is.
