This was incredibly tedious, with all the qualities that cause me to dislike Never Let Me Go so much.
In Ishiguro's particular vision of the future, robots are superstitious idiots who struggle to walk on uneven ground and have little sense of direction. Talk about depressing.
Ishiguro works hard to replicate the monotonous, detail-rich style that a robot might use. That's great and all, but it made for a horrible reading experience for me.

Strange and lovely, lovely and strange. Fits right in with the juuuust-barely sci-fi sadness and melancholia of Ishiguro's earlier "Never Let me Go" or Spike Jonze's film "Her" or any number of George Saunders' stories. It's hard to look into the just slightly distant future when the world is only slightly unfamiliar while also familiarly depressing. I'd almost rather go to the full, shocking, apocalyptic "The Road" than something which feels like it could literally happen tomorrow. At the same

I didn't expect to like this book - I was required to read The Remains of the Day in college and found it intensely boring. The movie too. But this was the book club choice of the month, and it is actually great. The introspective observational qualities of the main character were perfect and the book went surprisingly fast.
