I read this as an audio book because it came highly recommended by readers I respect and I was told that it was even better to listen to. I concur that it is an interesting story and that Eleanor is a compelling character. However, I may have been better off reading it in print instead.
The story is narrated by Cathleen McCarron. I was not expecting her to have an accent when I started the audio book, so I was in for a bit of a surprise there. I also couldn't tell where the story took place, bas ...more

I fell in love with this book from the very first page. honestly, I think whoever wrote the flap copy did a disservice to this book. it's so much more than a tale of one lonely woman and the two friends she accidentally makes. its a story of mental illness, coping mechanisms, and the power of human kindness. it's by far the best book ive read so far this year and I'll definitely be recommending it to, well, basically everyone I know.

I loved this book and the characters of Eleanor and Raymond. I was reminded of another book I really liked - Olive Kitteredge. Both Eleanor and Olive are quirky and believable to me. I don't ordinarily re-read many books, but I might get my own copy of this so that I can enjoy all the smart and funny parts of it again.

I'm so sad that Chris O'Dowd probably won't play Raymond because he'd be so freaking perfect for the role.

Definitely reminds me of "A Man Called Ove" - great recommendation for readers who enjoyed that book.
