I found this history of the LA library interesting and I’m really eager to see what my book club friends will think! It’s definitely more of a history book than a true crime book and it weaves the history of the LA Library with the story of the tragic 1986 fire that destroyed a huge portion of the materials it held.

I read this book because the author was coming to speak at an event, so I didn't know a ton about it other than it was about the LA Library Fire. I ended up really enjoying the part memoir, part true crime, part social history writing style - but it took me a minute to fully grasp how much the author was part of the story of the book. A book all about libraries and librarians and, to a lesser extent, books. What's not to love? This was mostly US focused, would love to read a similar book with a more Australian or global library focus one day.
