My professional career has been exclusively spent working as a librarian in public libraries (except for that year spent as a Research Associate in Finland!). My mom was a reference librarian in Colorado and my dad was the Director of a large county library system and was once recruited to apply for the County Librarian position at LAPL. I have cousins and aunts who are librarians and we frequently tour libraries when we travel, including the downtown Los Angeles Public Library.

I read this for Task #19 (a book of non-violent true crime) for the 2019 Read Harder Challenge. I enjoyed it but it definitely dragged at times. As someone who loves libraries, I appreciated the historical aspects of it but I would have preferred that it focus on the history of the library/libraries OR the fire. The bouncing back and forth was frustrating at times.
