I can't believe I hadn't read this classic until now. So good, especially the last half!

Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again. It seemed to me I stood by the iron gate leading to the drive, and for a while I could not enter, for the way was barred to me.
So, here I am, nearly 50, and reading Rebecca for the first time. I know. I know!. It's one of the few novels that my mother (who usually has no time for fiction) loves, too. I did see the movie, in college, so I know the basic plot, but not the intricacies. Perhaps there's not really much point in my writing an actual ...more

Read Rebecca many years ago, but with its pick for my book club, I re-read it... and was instantly swept in. The writing is hauntingly beautiful and all the characters come alive. Ok, so I had to finish this, it was a really good book. I will admit that I just wanted to shake the narrator...and I was a little perturbed at how she reacted to the big twist. But wow, how it kept sucking you in. The end was questionable and I felt like it didn't answer the questions I had about the beginning...but maybe that was the point!

Meh. I've read better. It did perk up when the twist came along because I wasn't expecting it. I may give it another go later in October.
