I have had this edition on my shelf since I was 12 or so. I tried reading it so many times as a young girl, then teenager, then adult and I could never get past the first few chapters. I finally decided to listen to the audio because I knew I had to read this book. It still took many months, but I'm so glad I persevered.

The most interesting bits of this came from the introductions, I think. Despite mentioninh the many sources that LMA alluded to in writing this, the annotations didn't really expand on anything. They usually just listed the source, which wasn't very illuminating. The best ones were the various illustrations and film stills to show different interpretations, and showing photographs of the family's items at Orchard House. I hadn't read this book in years but I loved it when I was a kid and I still love it. Aww. Even the end when it gets weird and too much about being a good wife, it's still good. Also this Penguin edition had really helpful footnotes and a really good introduction. Hooray!

This book is one of my old favorites, so when I got an e-reader application for my iTouch, it was one of the first books I downloaded. I read this a little each day while waiting to pick L. up from school - it's really convenient to have, because it fits right in my pocket and I don't have to carry a paperback around with me!

I tried so many times in my childhood and teen years to read this book and failed to get very far. I finally read it as an adult with a book group. I didn't really like it. It's too drippy sweet and sappy. I just don't understand the adoration that so many readers have for these four sisters in mid-19th century New England.
