Whenever I read Woolf, I think of water, and not just for the obvious reasons. To read her here is to stand among vast currents, rushing forward and back, to imagine we're swimming away, only to see we've gone in the opposite direction, to be forcibly reminded of the contemporaneous present.

I re-read this along with The Hours in December 2022 and wow! what a different experience. I loved it all and want to explore more of Woolf's work. LOVED this edition, especially the foreward by Jenny Offil.
