I'll admit it, I started off reading this and was like "wait this isn't like the MOVIE" and then I was like "calm down you read comics reboots all the time". It is a little odd, since the movie was so good and so popular, that this is an alternate origin story instead of building off the movie? But of course I'm sure she had to write this in isolation from the movie, and anyway this version of an origin story is much more appropriate for a YA novel than anything following up from the movie would

Coming off of the high of the great summer Wonder Woman had been having, this was the perfect book to extend the fun. I was really most excited because Leigh Bardugo was chosen to write it. if you haven't read her Grisha series get on it. She brought the same complex character development, witty dialogue, and compelling mix of action-adventure and internal struggle. What appears to be may not always be so. Details about Themyscrya that the casual Wonder Woman fan likely wouldn't know really roun

4.5? A new origin story for Diana--she is a teenager struggling on an island where she doesn't fit in because she never died in battle as they did, but gets her chance to prove her worth when she rescues a Greek-American girl from a shipwreck who turns out to be a Warbringer and takes her back home to break the centuries long curse. This was witty, feisty, fast paced, full of action and intrigue and humor, wrapped up in a gorgeously diverse and feminist package. I really enjoyed it and how it gr

“No!” Diana said hurriedly. She was going to have to be smarter.
Yes, Diana, you do need to be smarter. And that right there encapsulates the entire book.
I really wanted to like this, (and the cover is gorgeous!) but I knew I hadn't been crazy about the other book I read by Bardugo, so I approached this with some trepidation.
Sure enough, this book and I did not get off t a good start. I'm going to be pretty harsh here. The first sentence is just so dull: "Diana bounced lightly on her toes at ...more

I read this book because more than one person has recommended Leigh Bardugo's books to me and rather than jump in blind to her writing/writing style, I decided to see how she treats one of my favorite characters of all time. I love Wonder Woman so much, but I feel like a lot of people don't get her character, so I was interested to see what Bardugo would do.
First off, I was pleasantly surprised that the person that Diana risked it all for wasn't Steve but a girl. I honestly thought it was going ...more

I really liked the take on Diana’s life on Themyscira and her first foray into the world of man.
