Re-read this year as a family bedtime story. A bit dry for the kids in places, but held up fairly well.

Loved this book in high school, but found it somewhat less enjoyable this time. Dr. Frankenstein has like 80 feverish episodes, which really slows down the narrative, and it was hard to suspend belief regarding the lack of science. Still, a must read for everyone, and if you have children aged 8+, get them the Great Illustrated Classic of this.
Argh! Decided to read this because Rebecca Solnitz talked about it in the book The Faraway Nearby. 170 pages of overwrought writing.
I was fascinated by the various Frankenstein movie adaptations as a kid/teen and was pleasantly surprised when I tackled the book. It's so much deeper than any movie could be--lots of detail and drama and very timely issues about religion, creation, playing God, genetics, science, society, etc. I absolutely LOVED this book!

Maybe it only gets three stars because I needed a break from teaching it.
