Intellectually, I enjoyed this book. I found Frankenstein's monster to be totally compelling, and for the me the most interesting parts of the book involve him (and contrary to what you might think, the monster appears in maybe 1/3 of the book). There are a lot of themes in the book that still have relevance -- the relationship between parent and child, the desire to make or improve the world through science, etc. I enjoyed thinking about those themes and key moments in the book, and I look forw

I read this immediately after reading The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein - a retelling from Elizabeth's view, and it was really hard to not to read Victor within the context of that story. That said, I think even if I hadn't read that first I would have still thought Victor was way over the top. Still, thanks for birthing science fiction, 16 year old girl! No man could have done it better.

Completely different from the perception shaped by the classic film. Different in a good and interesting way. I eagerly anticipate reading "The Lady and Her Monsters," a nonfiction account of the social and scientific currents, literally and metaphorically, that influenced Shelley's writing.
