This is a story of a young boy named Bod (short for Nobody) whose family is killed by a mysterious “Man named Jack” when he was a baby. Bod crawls away and escapes to safety in a graveyard, where he is taken in and raised by ghosts and other creatures of the night. But even as time goes by, Bod’s family’s killer is still around and looking for him, and he doesn’t leave jobs unfinished.

Like many people, I wanted to hate this book. But I didn’t. Granted, it’s not my favorite book ever, but it’s pr

This is a great story. I liked the multi-faceted world of the graveyard and the complicated place that Bod inhabits. The story is scary, special and touching all in one. It is a creative coming of age tale about an orphan who is adopted into unusual circumstances. His parents and guardians are characters worth getting to know.

Huh. I am not sure about this. When I think about it reading it (which was yesterday) I have a favorable impression of it. Like basically everything Neil Gaiman does, it was clever and well-written and slyly funny. But... I don't even know what my "but" is. Somehow it just didn't grab me as much as other Gaiman books have. Ah well, you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time? ...more

I can see why it earned the awards it did. Fantastic!

I enjoyed so many things about this book--I loved the fresh setting, each of the graveyard characters from history, and the campy humor. My one complaint has to do with the resolution at the end. I felt like Gaiman had built up the tension (so much so that I dreamed about a dark man) intensely and then the explanation for why Bod needed to die just seemed weak. Other than that one thing, I loved this novel!
