Last week I heard the author read excerpts of the House on Mango Street on NPR. I loved her voice. I loved the stories she told. A few days later I found a copy at a book fair and snatched it up.
Esperanza stole my heart. I loved her since of self and her since of place. I understand her longing for her own house, her own porch, her own pillow. I bought hanging basket of pretty purple petunias to remind me of this book every day.
I'm already looking forward to reading it again.

Recommended to me for use in a graduate assignment, I fell in love with Esperanza and of course with Sandra Cisneros. The prose was crisp and lilting, and the stories relatable to anyone able to remember their adolescence with some degree of accuracy.
