What Members Thought

Once upon a time, before chimaera and seraphim, there was the sun and the moons. The sun was betrothed to Nitid, the bright sister [moon], but it was demure Ellai, always hiding behind her bold sister, who stirred his lust. He contrived to come upon her bathing in the sea, and he took her. She struggled, but he was the sun, and he thought he should have what he wanted. Ellai stabbed him and escaped, and the blood of the sun flew like sparks to earth, where it became seraphim - misbegotten chi

Oh. It's a romance. I should have been warned about that.
I was so intrigued by the teeth and monsters asks Prague (come on! Prague! What a fabulous backdrop to use!) that I was woefully unprepared for the über cliche sudden lust filled romance that would ensue. Except I got hints of it when Karou would wallow in sadness about the void inside her that must surely be filled by the arms of her true love holding her, right? Right? What else could fill the void? Oh wow, I didn't really know what this was about when I grabbed it? I knew it had some good buzz & also the audiobook was approximately the same length as the trip I was taking, so I took it. Like if I had realized it was about angels and chimera and shit I probably wouldn't have taken it? But it would have been my loss because this was really great. And the audiobook was exceptional--really good accents and monster voices.

Loved it! Fantastic, creative, female bad-ass is the center of the story. I loved the setting in Prague. I was charmed and drawn into this book immediately. I was going to the gym, where I read a lot, just so I could spend more time reading! (Talk about good motivation). This is the kind of book you stay up too late reading because you are willing to sacrifice sleep for the story.
I wish there were more books like this that provide a suspension from reality....for a little while anyhow. :)
