I hesitated to read this for quite a while. It was sitting on my bookshelves, and I was down to the last few "to read" books...so I decided to give it a shot. Well, I'm really glad I did! This is mostly a survival story, however the whole story keeps you guessing as to what is really going on. The reader knows from the beginning that Pi survives, however I found myself wondering How the heck he did it all the way throughout! I think I would have liked this novel a little better if I casually stumbled upon it, but in my case, I think it was overly hyped. The first 1/3 of the book was pretty slow and took me a while to get through, but looking back on it, Pi's description of how he found religion (in many forms) was one of my favorite parts. Once he was lost at sea, the story certainly became interesting, but I didn't feel it was as amazing as others made it out to be. ...more

First 97 pages dragged, then became much more of a page turner. Led to interesting discussions with others that had read it - ending lent itself to more questions than answers...
