I'm late coming to this but I'd loved Libba Bray's other books and figured I should check these out. (Also I read all 3 together in a week of quarantine without pausing to review between them, so they've blurred together in my mind.) Basically there is a lot to like but also...well...Libba Bray has deffo grown as an author. Sequel to A Great and Terrible Beauty, the YA novel about girls at a Victorian boarding school who discover a powerful magic they use without understanding what it is or how it came to them, Rebel Angels is every bit as engaging as its predecessor. It offers the distinct improvement of following a more discrete story arc, though yet again it leaves off with the obvious fact that the tale is not complete and you'll have to wait around for #3. It is not often when the squel is better than the first one, but I think Rebel Angels is better. It moves at a quicker pace, which made me not want to put this down. I read this one in two days because I made the time. It took me twice as long to read A Great and Terrible Beauty because I was not as invested thus did not make it a priority to finish. I did find myself at times wishing the girls would stop being so dense.
