I read this again because I had just read an essay by Bataille about evil in literature and Wuthering Heights was the first book he discussed and I was surprised – I had never considered WH having any evil. But Bataille made some good points about the obsessiveness of the relationship between Catherine & Heathcliff –their profound desire to return to the wildness of childhood and how their relationship borders on a mystical religious absorption and other complicated things.
