My high school French teacher once said that Catherine and Heathcliff are the only true lovers in English literature. We said what about Romeo and Juliet. She said they were just silly teenagers. Ever since falling in love with this story in 1981 I've been trying to prove my French teacher wrong. So far, she's still right.

I LOVED this book, I probably read it six times between middle school and high school. I can't really explain what I loved so much about it, it certainly didn't grab me the same way as an adult. I think I must have appreciated the story telling and the overly dramatic arc of events -- and I'm sure I loved that "justice" was served in the end, and the two families have quite a happy ending.

I was trying to listen to this on a PlayAway set but I cannot stand the actresses voice. Someday I will just get this book.
