Very disappointed...it's the first time I didn't love a John Green book. I really had to force myself to finish it...it took months, which for me is extremely rare. I just didn't care about any of the characters, especially the central Margo, who was clearly a narcissistic attention whore. It just didn't do it for me.

Quentin has been in love with the idea of his neighbor, Margo Roth Spiegelman, for years, so he's pretty thrilled when she crawls through his window dressed like a ninja and takes him on an adventure. I have such mixed thoughts about this book. I liked Q, and I liked the scenes where he was alone. I hated his friends. I was initially annoyed with how Margo was treated as a Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and then loved how that got twisted to show how damaging that trope really is. I loathed how several

All his life, Quentin has been fascinated by his neighbor, the lovely Margo Roth Spiegelman. She's beautiful, confident, snarky, and everyone loves her. But how well does everyone really know her? When Margo disappears after taking Quentin on a whirlwind one-night road trip, she leaves clues behind. Quentin knows that she means for him to find her. But can he do it in time?

It took me a while to get into this, I never really did, but the ending made up for it. The characters are standard bright, iconoclast teens, and the book has the standard themes of change and growth and identity and authenticity. It's like a John Cusack movie, minus John Cusack and, for me, some of the charm and wit. I think maybe this is a book best appreciated by high schoolers and freshly-minted adults, but, for me as a (wow) now-established adult, I found it to be a reminder why I am so gla

Whew! At first I was nervous about this book because it seemed like Margo was a cliche Manic Pixie Dream Girl, but, without going into details, that trope was subverted. Thank God!

Found the book and (finally) finished it.
I liked this a lot. Loved the dialogue and friendships, and the road trip section. Sort of hated Margo Roth Spiegelman and her manic-pixie-dreamgirlishness even though I loved Alaska.
This book certainly has a lot in common with As Simple As Snow, as many of my friends have pointed out here. And I'll certainly be recommending this to lots of teens. I don't know - I still want more from this than I got somehow. Maybe my expectations were just too high. ...more

Is it just me, or does John Green write the same book over and over? Each of his three-so-far books feature a smart, moderately geeky guy who's obsessed with some quirky, cool girl who he can't have--or can he?--and narrates with self-consciously clever observations and humorous lists. *sigh* Well, at least they're interesting and well-written (two of the best generic yet sincere compliments to give a book)!

I've had 10% left in this book for over a year with very little desire to finish it. I read a review which said that Margo was similar to Alaska, from "Looking for Alaska" & I saw too many similarities to really enjoy the book. John Green writes the dramatic be all end all of teenage dramas very well, I'm just not sure I still have the patience for them.

A quick read and some parts were just hilarious - and I loved the road trip - but I didn't love it.

I didn't like the ending much but other than that this was a great book.
