Tally is finally pretty, and her life is filled with fun: a hot boyfriend, exciting friends, constant parties. But when Tally receives a letter from the past, she remembers her purpose in becoming pretty. Now Tally is fighting for her life and to continue on with the mission of The Smoke, all the while trying to avoid the Specials, who still remember Tally from when she was an Ugly.

I liked the character of Zane and the clique Tally finds herself in, but the plot just didn't do it for me, Tally wasn't as sympathetic a character as I think she was meant to be, and the ending (Tally's punishment) didn't really make sense.

I really am surprised at how good this series is. I'm actually going to read the third, too!
