The good parts of this were really good, but the bad parts were really bad. On the plus side, David Smith as a character personifying the dream to be a creative entity, and to pursue that passion to the ends of the earth was interesting, complex, and sympathetic. And the art work in the book was really beautifully done - evocative and challenging, but also comforting when it needed to be too. The NYC setting was lovingly and critically explored.

Beautiful art. Complex, well-written story. I liked this one quite a bit. I think it benefitted b/c I read it it one 3 hour sitting, but it was still heart-breakingly good.

Fantastic art and layout, as expected from the guy who wrote Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art. Interesting twist on the Faust plot. I'm not sure if I should like David (because he reads as man-child with very little growth) and whether that's necessary to really like this. ...more
