I loved Raina Telgemeier's work on the BSC graphic novels, so I was so excited to hear about this book (and it didn't disappoint!).

Raina was in the sixth grade when she tripped and fell, damaging her front teeth and jaw in such a way that it took over four years of painful dentistry to fix. This comic memoir chronicles that period in her life. Not only was Raina dealing with the tooth trauma, but she was dealing with the daily trauma (and triumphs) of middle school - fitting in, frenemies, crus

So, even though everyone who has laid eyes on this graphic novel seems to love it, regardless of age, I was never particularly interested in reading it. This was a cute graphic novel for sure, and I think young teens would get a lot out of it. As an adult reader I liked it didn't love it. My years of orthodontia are too far behind me, perhaps?

I mean kids REALLY LOVE these books. As you probably know if you like...ever inter

Great read. 9 year old enjoyed the art the best, though I think a story about braces couldn't have been more timely for a kid about to get the first mold of her teeth made to fit a retainer. ...more

A sweet story about an awkward girl growing up during the late '80s/early '90s in San Francisco. Would be great to get in the hands of self-conscious middle-schoolers, especially those with braces. ...more

Adorable, authentic memoir. I love Telgemeier's clear art, since graphic novels are sometimes hard for me to follow. Both my daughters devoured this in a day. We're waiting patiently (?) for Telgemeier's next work! ...more

I do so love Raina Telgemeier. She perfectly captures the horribleness of early puberty.
