Yes, it's like Castaway on Mars. Yes, it's worth slogging through the paragraphs upon paragraphs of technical details and mathematical calculations to follow the story. I cared about that snarky Martian and the full cast of characters on Earth and in space. (Especially Mindy at SatCon.) I'm dying to hear from people who really know their space stuff what they think of this book. Some of it reads like a know-it-all's guide to Mars Worst Case Scenarios, but some it of is funny and edge-of-your-sea

Such fun. Lots of good, accurate science, plus plenty of sarcastic humor. Not the best writing, but I don't expect the best in a scifi novel. I just want an outstanding, unusual premise that proceeds appropriately and keeps me engaged. Weir absolutely committed to the idea of being stuck on Mars, and all the critical thinking, scavenging, and innovating you'd need to survive. It's basically MacGyver on crack. Highly recommend.

This book was fantastic. I'm not usually one for space stuff, but this sucked me in from the very beginning. Even the parts that were calculation-heavy didn't make my eyes glaze over. This is the book that got me reading again after the birth of my child, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good adventure and doesn't mind a lot of cuss words.

Loved this book and I'm not even a fan of science fiction. Could not put it down.
