This was great - I liked the conceit, and I thought the first half of the book in particular was extepremely well done. The second half was good as well, but in a lot of ways was very different from the first. I almost wish it had been broken into two novels, I think that would have helped with the transition a bit. Overall, excellent characters and very engrossing.

Stephenson should really be a TV writer. Or someone should make miniseries out of his books. This book was clearly two books in one volume, and there is room for more sequels, although I'm sure Stephenson won't explore this universe again, because that isn't his style. But it is compelling and visual, and could be the next A Game of ThronesGame of Thrones (except there probably isn't enough sex).

The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because sometimes the story got lost in too much technical description. But if you love science fiction this is not to be missed!

Godawful. There's a regular amount of story buried inside 3x as much scientific explanation. This is simply the worst kind of science fiction.

I'll write a full review later but for now, all I can think is thank god I'm finally finished! The first 3/4 were awesome. The final 1/4 made up for it by being incredibly fucking boring.
